Asia Cup 2018 | Shahidi, Asghar guided Afganistan to respectable 257
Team Afganistan is playing their 3rd match in this Asia Cup 2018 tournament against Pakistan. After winning the toss Afganistan chose to bat first. Shahidi and Asghar proved their captain’s decision strong. They guided Afganistan to a respectable score of 257 runs.
Excellent display of batting by Afghanistan yet again IN Asia Cup 2018. What a brilliant knock by Shahidi, especially his hitting towards the end of the innings – ‘clean and crisp’. Yes, he was bowled by Hasan Ali in the 49th over but the southpaw absolutely went insane in the last over against Usman Khan.
Shahidi Deserved a century as well, but unfortunately, he couldn’t get there. It was the partnership between him and Asghar Afghan that gave them the hopes to get closer to 250. Asghar hit a few lusty blows and had he carried on further, Afghanistan might have got an even better total of 257 runs.
Talking about Pakistan, Mohammad Nawaz got three wickets but Afridi was the pick of the lot as he produced a number of chances but ended up with only two scalps against his name. He’ll only get better with time.
On a very slow wicket, Shahidi continued his top form with a very patient 97 off 118 balls, dropping anchor to register his highest ODI score, and in turn, help Asghar Afghan tee off at the other end in a 94-run stand for the fourth wicket. Afghan scored 67 off 56 balls, starting with a first-ball six off Mohammad Nawaz and then bludgeoning just about everything later; he hit 2 fours and 5 sixes.
Afghan was dropped on 65 off Afridi by Haris Sohail but the 18-year-old hit back a ball later, sneaking one through the batsman’s slog to register his maiden wicket in One-Day Internationals. He finished with figures of 2 for 38 in his ten overs.
