Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the World Cup 2019. He had injured his left thumb during the World Cup 2019 league match with Australia. Pat Cummins hit him with a rising delivery. It happened in the early phase of his match-winning innings of 117 off 109 balls. Dhawan didn’t come out to field after that innings. Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant, who had been flown to England replaces him.

“Following several specialist opinions, he will remain in a cast until the middle of July. He will not be available for the remainder of #CWC19,” the BCCI tweeted.
“Shikhar Dhawan has been diagnosed with a fracture of the first metacarpal on his left hand,” the BCCI added.
KL Rahul is opening for India in Dhawan’s absence. Dhawan has scored 122 runs in his last match. He took India to a comfortable win against Australia. The Indian team will miss that left and right opening combination.
KL Rahul is proving himself as a good opener as He also scored a 50 against Pakistan in the Last match. Rishabh Pant who has been named as Shikhar’s replacement is also a good batsman. His wicket-keeping techniques are also very good.
Team India hasn’t lost a single match in World Cup 2019 yet. Dinesh Kartik will be the first choice for alternate Wicket-keeper so, if Pant will be given a chance in the team, that would be as a batsman only.
